The clash of titans between Barcelona and Juventus
This Champions League’s quarter finals are coming. With it, great duels around the tourney will happen, like Real Madrid x Bayern Munch and Atletico Madrid x Leicester. Amidst those games, Barcelona will reencounter the adversary they had to beat in 2014/15’s Champions League finals to become the winner: The Juventus.
The last duel between the two European giants happened in the 2014/15 Champions League final. The duel marked the only time that Neymar Jr. faced Juventus. Barça left the pitch as the champions, winning by 3-2, with a goal from the number 11 right by the end. But both teams have already faced each other sometimes before. There were nine games: Four victories from Juventus, Three from Barça and two draws. The first two duels happened during the 1970/71 Fairs Cup, where Juve beat Barça twice by 2-1. In the other two, at the 1985/86 European Cup, Barcelona won by 1-0 and tied by 1-1. They eventually faced each other at the European Recopa 1990/91, where Barcelona won by 3-1 and qualified later, even after the 1-0 defeat.
One of the most important matches between both clubs happened in 2005, on the dispute for the Joan Gamper Trophy. The duel was considered as the day that Messi showed up to the world, with the Argentine player, who wore the shirt number 30 by the time, shining in the pitch and helping the squad to tie the game by 2-2. Unfortunately, on the penalty clash, the Catalan Team lost. Check out what Leo Messi did with the Italians: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuxwTkpaEqs
In the Champions League, the club battled twice. In the first game of the 2002/03’s quarter finals, they made a 1-1 draw, but in the second, Juve won by 2-1, becoming the tourney’s vice-champion, defeated by Milan in the final. In the only duel of the aforementioned 2015’s Champions, it was Barça’s turn to win and guarantee the Triple-Crown.
This will be the third quarter finals that the teams will face each other. Barcelona won five games, tied one and lost two, while Juventus tied twice and won six times in this edition of the competition. It will be a tense and extremely decisive duel for the tournament, with great players in the pitch. But, without a doubt, another incredible game to go down in history.
