PSG makes 4 and defeats Barcelona in Champions League’s last 16
This Tuesday (14), Parc de Princes was the stage for a big Barcelona defeat, on the Champions League’s last 16. The team tried until the end, but got beaten by 4-0 against PSG. Barça’s next duel will be this Sunday (19), for La Liga, against Leganés and at the Camp Nou.
First half –
The game didn’t start easy for the FC Barcelona. With 10 minutes of game, the PSG got closer many times in to the Catalan area, forcing Ter Stegen to be always ready. The game was heavily intense and the french did not let Barça breathe. At 17 minutes, after a foul from Umtiti, Di María made the free-kick that opened the score at Parc de Princes, for the culés’ despair.
At 26 minutes, Neymar Jr. created an amazing play from the left, exchanged passes with Suárez and left the ball with Andre Gomes in the adversary’s area. In the kick, the portuguese player missed. At 34, Di María got a good counter attack for PSG, after finding Draxler on the right, but Ter Stegen showed up again to defend the kick.
When Barcelona seemed to get their team right, Verrati disarmed Messi, who was making a good play, carried the ball and made the pass for Draxler to score. 2-0 at the Parc de Princes. After the strong pressure, the whistle came to end the first half.
Second half –
PSG began the second half much more closed, but its pressure reigned supreme against Barça.At 10 minutes, the situation got worse for the Catalans. After a great play between Matuidi and Draxler, Di María got the ball in the midfield, carrying it until he made a strong kick that marked the third goal of the french squad.
After PSG’s third goal, Barcelona fought to find themselves inside the pitch, trying to make their pace better. Neymar Jr. was one of the players who most ran inside the pitch, trying to accelerate things through individual plays. At 21, on the left, he made a great pass for Messi, but the number 10 missed the chance with his head.
But individual plays wouldn’t be enough. At 26 minutes, Meunier crossed the pitch with the ball, making it for Cavani to score the fourth for his club. The game surpassed its 30 minutes and Barcelona struggled to remain alive. The club kept trying, but the French club only showed up through conter attacks, but the ball did not come in.
Barcelona had to sweat their shirt a lot more to overcome the pitch’s control. But it was too late. Their future in the Champions League was uncertain with the 4-0 defeat in the first round.
