Neymar Jr. is the second most googled soccer player of 2016
Google revealed its immense list of things that were trending and most googled terms of 2016. In the list of most searched soccer players of the year, Neymar Jr. appears in second place among searches originating in the United States.
2016 was one of the years that the player most appeared on the search bar. According to Google, the number 10 of the National Brazilian Team was trending among mentions during the month of August, when he was fighting for Brazil’s first golden medal, at Rio 2016’s Olympic Games. Among the most googled names of the year, NJr appears behind only of his teammate, Lionel Messi.
According to the platform, the history of the Sports category of 2016 showcases that Rio’s Olympics was also one of the year’s biggest trends, staying in sixth place in the Top 10 most googled terms. Among the most searched moments of the competition, the opening ceremony leads the list and the closing ceremony stays in second.
It’s worth remembering that in August, during the Olympics, Neymar Jr. was the most popular athlete of the tourney on Instagram, having the 10 most liked pics and the most liked picture of the games. On Twitter, two of the most twitted moments in the Olympics were also his: When he kicked the penalty that gave him the golden medal and when he scored the goal that opened the score in the final against Germany.
