Barcelona shines against Hercules and closes 2016 with a 7-0 rout
The Barcelona squad drove the crowd nuts at the Camp Nou, winning their last match of the year with na amazing 7-0 rout. Hercules was the club’s last adversary of 2016 and of Copa del Rey’s group phase. Digne, Rakitic, Rafinha, Alcácer and Turan (who made a hat-trick) guaranteed the goals.
First half -
The last game of the year for Barça began slowly. The azulgrana pace didn’t cause danger, but won total control over the pitch. At nine minutes, Mascherano almost scored his first goal for the club, fooling and kicking in Buiges’ direction, but the goalkeeper got the best out of it.
The game followed on its slow pace, with the Catalan team taking over the first half. At 30. Denis Suárez appeared on left, creating a good play to invade the area. When he went for the kick, he sent it out. But, seven minutes later, the goal came out. Starting with Rafinha, the ball ended up in Turan’s feet, who invaded the area and passed to Álcacer, who missed. On the rebound, Digne opened the score.
With the match coming to an end, it was clear that Barça wanted more goals. And on the last minute, the referee whistled a penalty for the Catalan team. Rakitic kicked on the goalkeeper’s direction, but didn’t miss the shot, closing the first half of the duel by 2-0.
Second half –
Hercules started the second half determined to turn the tides, while trying to take away Barcelona’s control of the game in any way possible. But the Catalan team didn’t allow it. At 50 minutes, Denis Suárez left the ball with Turan, who dribbled all of the defenders while invading the area and left the ball free for Rafinha to score. After the goal, Barça regained control.
But the rout didn’t stop there. At 54, Aleix Vidal received the ball on the right. Free, he made a great launch that ended up in Turan’s head, making this Barça’s fourth one. With more than 60 minutes of game, Barça didn’t let Hercules breathe at the Camp Nou, but the adversary started to close itself, puzzling the Catalan infiltration.
With the last duel of the year coming to an end, Barcelona started to pressure a bit more. And at 72 minutes, it worked. Turan stole the ball on the center and passed to Rafinha inside the pitch, on the right. The Brazilian launched it back to the center and Paco Álcacer headbutted it to the goal. But it wasn’t over yet.
At 87, Aliex Vidal received the ball on the right and launched it to the center. Paco Álcacer missed, but Turan saw the rebound and scored another one. Soon after, to finish the rout and the year, the Turkish stole the ball after a corner-kick from Barça and when face to face with the goalkeeper, he did well and completed his hat-tric. Camp Nou said goodbye to 2016 with a beautiful 7-0 and a place in Copa del rey’s final 16.
