First half –

The Catalunya Supercup’s final started well for Barcelona at Tarragona, but that didn’t last. Soon, by 10 minutes, Caicedo took an assistance from Reyes, easily surpassed Majip and opened the score for Espanyol. At 15, Barça was trying to recover and won a good chance after a foul, close to the enemy area. On the free-kick, Denis Suárez sent it outside.

With 30 minutes of game, it was visible that, despite maitaining the control of the ball, Barça could not make na eficiente play, letting Espanyol be the dangerous one of the match. The azulgrená team had a boost by the end of the first half, but neither them or Espanyol scored. The referee whistled, finishing the first part of the game.

Second half –

Barcelona started the second half in a much more aggressive way, not letting Espanyol touch the ball. At 10 minutes, in one of the adversary’s few good chances, Caicedo entered the area freely, but kicked it out. By 16, it was the azulgrená’s turn to endanger with Paco Alcácer, who almost pushed the ball in, but ended up sending it out.

While Barça tried the hardest to tie the game, Espanyol defended itself very seriously and took chances in conter attacks. But both teams had difficulties in creating creative plays and in finding spaces. After the three well disputed extra minutes, the referee gave the final whistle and, for Barcelona’s bad luck, the Espanyol was the new Catalunya Supercup Champion.
