The Brazilian Olympic Team was nominated for the Laureus prize

The Olympic Team that conquered the Golden medal during Rio’s 2016 Olympic Games got nominated for another prize. The “golden players” are disputing for the famous Laureus prize, considered to be the Oscars of sports. The winner will be announced in February 14th, in a ceremony that takes place in Monaco.

As the capitain of the team, Neymar Jr. lead the squad which conquered the only title that was missing for the Brazilian football. For the achievement, the team got nominated for the Laureus in the ‘Best Team’ category. But the owners of the Olympic Medal are not the only Brazilians disputing for the prize. The skater Pedro Barros got nominated for the ‘Athletes in Action’, for conquering his sixth golden medal in the X-Games.

In 2012, due to his good season and good performance at the 2012 London Olympics, Neymar Jr. was nominated in the category of ‘Breakthrough of the Year’, but lost and did not take the prize home.

The Laureus World Sports Awards is an annual awards ceremony that celebrates the great athletes and top teams throughout the year. In addition to 'Best Team', the awards will include the categories 'Male Athlete', 'Female Athlete', 'Revelation', 'Return of the Year', 'Athlete of Action' and 'Paralympic Athlete'.
