‘Map of Likes’ shows that Neymar Jr. is Facebook’s most followed Brazilian athlete in the country
Still recovering, Neymar Jr. may be momentarily away from being the star on the pitch, but a partnership between Globo.Esporte and Facebook revealed that he’s still number one when it comes to social media in Brazil. The "Map of the Likes" revealed that the number 10 is the biggest Brazilian athlete in on Facebook and has more followers than all the football clubs in Brazil.
The map data were collected in May 2017 and revealed the 26 most followed athletes at the time, in Brazil. With more than 60 million likes on Facebook, Neymar Jr. has the most followed page in the country and has more followers than the pages from Brazilian’s major clubs like Flamengo, Corinthians, Palmeiras and his first club, Santos FC. 16.706.550 million of these likes comes from Brazil.
Below the star, completing the Top 5 athletes with more Brazilian followers, are: David Luiz (10.584.953), Ronaldinho Gaúcho (5.384.646), Kaká (4.474.330), Léo Moura (3.818.267) and Marcelo (3.788.745).
Dividing by cities, 1.592.172 likes of Neymar Jr.’s Brazilian followers are from São Paulo. 981.952 are from Rio de Janeiro, 367.877 are from Fortaleza, 331.185 are from Salvador and Manaus closes the Top 5 with 311.767.
The only places that the star is not the most followed is in Icatu, where Kaka is the most followed, Nova Bassano and Paraí, where David Luiz reigns superior.
