In their third encounter of the year, Barcelona defeats Athletic Bilbao

This Saturday (4), Barcelona got a beautiful victory against Athletic Bilbao at the Camp Nou, for the 21th round of the Spanish Championship. The match ended by 3-0 and Paco Alcácer, Messi and Aleix Vidal guaranteed the three goals. Now the team returns ot Copa del Rey next Tuesday (7), for the second duel against Atletico Madrid.

First half –

The match had a tense begining. So on the first minute, Paco Alcácer left Neymar Jr. ahead of the goal, but the player did wrong and kicked it out. In the counter attack, Williams arrived face to face with Ter Stegen, but kicked it in the pole and Umtiti took the danger away. Umtiti, Ter Stegen and Piqué proved to be the wall throughought the whole clash. After the tension, the Catalan team tried to maintain the pace through passes, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Athletic.

At 12 minutes, Laporte managed to take the ball by the left and crossed for Williams to try and miss with his head. From that point on, Barcelona started to take advantage from Athletic’s mistakes and then came the goal. At 18 minutes, Neymar Jr. won the ball on the left, beat his markers and made the pass for Paco Alcácer to score.

The Catalan’s defense did well along the match, but failed a few times and after a mistake from Umtiti, Williams almost tied the duel. But Barcelona had the upper hand and that’s how, at 39 minutes, after a foul in Vidal, Messi made na amazing free-kick and scored another for the team. At 42, it was Neymar Jr.’s turn to invade the area and try a goal, but he kicked badly and missed the first half’s last good chance.

Second half –

Barcelona started putting a lot of pressure. At 49 minutes, Neymar Jr. left the ball with Turan in a corner kick and the Turkish launched for Rafinha to almost score. Soon after, the number 11 invaded the area with Messi, but again missed his chance to score.

The match surpassed 65 minutes and after a few substitutions, Barcelona seemed to take its foot out of the accelerator, but didnt lose focus. The focus helped so much that the third goal came after Aleix Vidal stole the ball in the center and invaded the area alone to score. Athletic Bilbao seemed to lose the breath they had in the first half.

More than 80 minutes of game and the duel seemed calmer and closed up, with both teams risking and creating very little in the pitch. Neymar Jr. tried in every possible way to score his well deserved goal, but it didn’t happen this time. After much pressure and three extra minutes, the duel came to an end.
