Barcelona beats Athletic Bilbao and advances on Copa del Rey
Barcelona goes to the semi-finals after today's victory against Athletic Bilbao. Winning by 3-1 at the Camp Nou, with goals from Suárez, Piquá and Neymar Jr., the team qualified themselves for the next stage round of the Copa del Rey. The next challenge of the culé team will be on this Saturday (30), at 13h (Brazilian time), against Atletico Madrid, the leader of the League.
First half -
Both teams made a good start on the first half. Eight minutes and Barça thought they would come out in front. On a corner kick, Vermaelen heads the ball, it hits the post and goes in. However, the referee had already marked foul of defender on the pitch. At 11, Arduriz received in midfield and performed a long pass to Iñaki. The attacker goes through Ter Stegen and kicks it to slowly open the score.
Athletic spent the first 20 minutes pressing the culé team, seeking a goal anyhow. FC Barcelona saw difficulty in passing over the marking of their opponents and thus could not reach the other area with good chances. At 39, after a foul on Neymar Jr., Messi had the opportunity to make a free-kick on the edge of the area, but ended up sending it out. In the last minutes, the blaugrana team decided to wake up.
At 42, the number 11 tabled with Suarez, invaded the area and tried to dribble past the keeper. Herrerín threw himself on the ball and took the risk. Messi also tried his, invading the right and risking the kick, but the ball was out. No more news and with Athletic in front, the first half ended.
Second Half –
At the beginning of the second half, it was Barça that dominated the field. Eight minutes and Sergi Roberto made a great launch to Messi, who crosses the ball and left Luis Suárez to score the equalizing goal. At 15, after a cross from Balenziaga, Iñaki Williams dominated and tried to kick. The ball hit on Mathieu and, on the rebound, Eraso kicked it in the hands of Ter Stegen.
Unlike the first half, the culé team dominated the field in the second half and Athletic was struggling to score. The pace of the game fell, but Barcelona kept on passing the ball and looking for openings to score.
At 33, Neymar advanced through the area and Herrerín flattened. In spare, Suárez played for Rakitic who tried to kick. The ball deflected by the defense and the goalkeeper sent it out. After much pressing, Barca scored, after 36 minutes. Daniel Alves made the crossing, after winning a dispute against Muniain and Piqué jumped to score the team's second goal.
Near the end of the match, Athletic tried to run behind another draw, but it was too late. 46 in overtime, Neymar Jr. Received a pass from Sergi Roberto. The player dominated, and gave a shot to score the third for Barcelona and classify the team for the semifinal.
